- Logistics Planning
- Relocation Management
Background and objectives
LAKAL is a specialist in aluminum door and roller shutter construction. The company has been growing steadily since 1924 and today generates a turnover of EUR 62 million with 340 employees. The main sales markets are France, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Developing the existing company sites in order to deal with the continuing growth and need to boost efficiency was not feasible. The production facilities were scattered and under lease, with the contracts due to expire in 2015. This was the perfect opportunity to create a factory optimised for LAKAL's processes on a greenfield site. A 47,000 m² plot of land was acquired on the new Lisdorfer Berg industrial estate.
Implementation and challenge
MPS ARCHONIC supported the client LAKAL and their parent company Dr. Arnold Schäfer GmbH from the initial feasibility study to factory and logistics planning, architecture and relocation management. As a make-to-order production facility with an in-house delivery service, logistics flows and processes had to be designed in a way that allowed customer-specific products to be delivered in synch with the delivery schedule.
