Background and objectives
Fuyao is the world's second largest automotive glass manufacturer. Sales figures have risen sharply, particularly in recent years. As further growth was not possible at the old site and customer demand could no longer be met, the decision was made to plan and build a new site including production areas and new headquarters in Leinfelden. MPS ARCHONIC was responsible for the entire planning of the site, including the production and logistics processes, as well as the overall project planning and management.
Implementation and challenge
The analysis of the processes and logistics served as the basis for redesigning the production processes and logistics areas and processes. In the concept phase, a layout to optimise material flows was designed based on the growth scenario and spaces were dimensioned to accommodate future expansion. This was followed by detailed and interdisciplinary planning of the entire site and buildings at machinery and workplace level. The challenge was to safeguard the material supply to the machines and to implement the new logistics processes. Special features of the project included cross-cultural cooperation with respect to international process requirements as well as links with planning to enable short planning and execution times.
The result
New European headquarters, built in record time with parallel development of lean production and logistics processes as well as the planning and execution of all buildings and infrastructure at the new site.
